Playoff Final: Deep Impact - Summit FC

GSSL Division 3B November 21, 2010 9:15am Georgetown Playfield

Deep Impact - Summit FC 5-3 (1-2)
0-1
0-2
1-2 Blake Ambrose (pk)
2-2 Brian Virgin (Matt Choi)
3-2 Jak Ashuraliev
4-2 Chris Allen (Jamie Watts)
5-2 Chris Allen
5-3

Seattle's new favorite team Deep Impact bounced back from a dismal semi-final performance to claim the championship trophy after a hard-fought win over Summit FC at Georgetown.

History was made on a chilly Sunday morning at Georgetown Playfield, a day before manager Totev's long-awaited birthday celebration with cupcakes and Tutta Bella pizza. Deep Impact were rewarded a trophy they so thoroughly deserved after a perfect season in a league that was already familiar to most players in the squad. The league winners matched up with second-placed Summit FC for what turned out to be a more difficult task than anticipated.

Impact created loads of chances in the opening 20 minutes or so but failed to convert as Summit FC inched closer to a shock upset. They went two goals up through dead-ball situations and kept the same playing style throughout the game with long balls that were poorly dealt with by Impact. However, the sky blues kept digging and eventually cut the lead in half when Ambrose was fouled inside the area. The attacking midfielder stepped up confidently and made no mistake from the spot. The surprising lead stayed until the half-time whistle.

The second period of play saw Impact dominate more and more, craving those crucial goals that would put them in front. The breakthrough came from Brian Virgin, who has been one of the players of the season. The midfielder bent a gorgeous shot into the upper corner from 17 meters out, bringing joy and optimism to the team. Encouraged by a moment's magic from Virgin, Impact was now ready to pound, butter, and stuff their opponent real good, less than a week before Thanksgiving.

Minutes later, Totev was awarded a free-kick outside the box that seemingly only the referee was able to make sense out of. That did not stop top scorer Jak Ashuraliev who once again blasted home a free-kick, simply unstoppable. Summit FC seemed deflated after the comeback and Chris Allen added two goals in quick succession to pile on the misery. A late consolation goal did not matter much as Impact sailed to victory for the 12th time this season, and could lift the trophy they have not yet received.

Playoff Semi-Final: Deep Impact - FC Thiên Ân

GSSL Division 3B November 20, 2010 9:00am Ingraham High School #2

Deep Impact - FC Thiên Ân 1-0 (1-0)
1-0 Matt Choi (Kris Totev)

The Sky Blues made it to the playoff final in their first season in the Greater Seattle Soccer League with a narrow 1-0 win over FC Thien An at Ingraham High School.

An unimpressive performance by the league champions saw them squeeze by the Vietnamese team and into the Division 3B playoff final. The only goal of the game came in the first half through in-form striker Matt Choi after some quick one-touch passes by Ambrose and Totev set him up for the finish. The overly aggressive FC Thien An dominated most of the possession and were unlucky on many occasions not to score. They were also lucky to not have more than the one player sent off late in the second half. A well-organized Impact team prevented an equalizer under difficult playing conditions, and although not especially convincing on the day, a win is a win and even the best teams can have an off-day.

Deep Impact - Shin Guards?

GSSL Division 3B November 14, 2010 11:15am Summit Playfields #2

Deep Impact - Shin Guards? 7-1 (4-1)
1-0 Tristan Traywick (Jak Ashuraliev)
1-1
2-1 Brian Virgin (Blake Ambrose)
3-1 Jak Ashuraliev
4-1 Mark Conrad (Brian Virgin)
5-1 Matt Choi (Brian Virgin)
6-1 Jak Ashuraliev (Blake Ambrose)
7-1 Matt Choi (Jose Chi)

Deep Impact ended their regular season in seventh heaven as Shin Guards? were soundly beaten at Summit Playfields #2 in Lake City.

This second encounter versus Shin Guards? produced some of the best football seen all season, and it has already become clear that Summit #2 is a field well-suited for Impact's style of play. Mark Conrad made his debut after a lenghty spell as a Serbian interpreter abroad and had a fine game up top. Rumor has it that he might be interested in joining the club on a permanent basis.

The wet surface was carefully inspected before kick-off and having half the field covered with dead leaves never became an issue for the home side. Being under no pressure whatsoever with a place in the playoffs already secured and coming off some very impressive performances of late, Impact came out fast and hard and almost received a standing ovation after their first-half goals from the few spectators that had found their seats on this chilly Sunday morning. Traywick's goal was textbook Newcastle United from the mid-90's, starting with a perfect cross from the right by Jak and finished wonderfully by Tristan who used a trademark Alan Shearer maneuver to expedite the ball into the side netting.

Shin Guards? made it 1-1 against the run of play before Blake raced down the line and crossed it to Brian for the volley and a 2-1 lead. The third came through Jak when he picked up a loose ball from Conrad's misguided shot and hammered it low past the goalie. The Serbian lover added a fourth with a powerful finish into the roof of the the net, set-up nicely by Brian Virgin. A deserved lead at half-time and the away team were lucky to escape with only the three-goal deficit.

In the second half, Matt Choi showed his true self with a classy performance and two goals to go with it. Choi, who has been on the score-sheet several times this season, finally found the form that had made him a fan-favorite at Seattle Central Soccer Club. Jak Ashuraliev took his tally to 8 goals in 7 games, making him not only Deep Impact's top scorer but also the leading goal scorer in the division. An outstanding game by the home team who once again showed their lethal finishing and fluent passes, as well as claiming Summit #2 as their own.

In this week's news, playoffs are just around the corner and everyone is just so excited. Deep Impact will take on FC Thien An for the third time in a month, which is quite ridiculous really, and the winner of that game will play either Summit FC or ECS FC in the final.

Smells Like Low Tide - Deep Impact

GSSL Division 3B November 7, 2010 11:00am Twin Ponds Park

Smells Like Low Tide - Deep Impact 0-3 (0-2)
0-1 Marty Klingebiel (Blake Ambrose)
0-2 Marty Klingebiel (Jamie Watts)
0-3 Marty Klingebiel (Jose Chi)

A memorable Marty Klingebiel hat-trick secured another three points as Smells Like Low Tide were left licking their wounds at Twin Ponds Park.

After being crowned league winners a few weeks ago and with playoffs in the not-too-distant future, Impact got the double over Low Tide without having conceded a single goal in both games. The current squad number is proving to be an important factor in this season's success with almost too many players missing every game and the fact that four players are joint top scorers in the league with 6 goals each so far. It's looking very promising for next season.

This year's second encounter with Smells Like Low Tide was not as exciting as the first, but Impact delivered the goods and outplayed their opponent in every way. Marty became the main attraction with a treble of goals, showing great predatory form. His first has to be credited to Ambrose whose quick legs and stamina beat the entire defense before crossing it low and precise. Klingebiel barely had time to react but managed to score from close range. The second goal came from the right, this time a long cross from Jamie that bounced over everyone and with a couple of elegant touches Marty poked it in behind the goalie. Impact could have had more goals in the first half but settled for a comfortable two-goal lead.

The second period of play was again dominated by the away team, however, only one goal would come out of all the chances and possession. A quick throw by Jose Chi found Marty, who dribbled half the team before blasting home an unstoppable shot. The hat-trick was complete and Impact seemed satisfied with the result as Low Tide only threatened on a couple of occasions. A decent team performance, with once again a flawless defensive display and an attacking prowess that stands alone in the division.

In other important news, the deadline for signing up the team for Winter Season 2011 is coming up in less than two weeks. Deep Impact is hoping and expecting to move up to division 2B.

Deep Impact - FC Thiên Ân

GSSL Division 3B October 31, 2010 10:00am Shoreline Center Park A

Deep Impact - FC Thiên Ân 5-1 (2-0)
1-0 Matt Choi (Kevin Dunigan)
2-0 Jose Chi (Kevin Dunigan)
3-0 Jak Ashuraliev (Kris Totev)
4-0 Hieu Duong (Jamie Watts)
5-0 Kris Totev (Matt Choi)
5-1

Five former Seattle Central SC players stole the headlines with a goal each as Deep Impact overcame FC Thien An for the second time in a week with a 5-1 victory at Shoreline.

Halloween weekend took its toll on the Deep Impact squad where a total of eight players missed out on the game, however, the Vietnamese side were in worse shape as they could only muster up seven starters. It was an obvious set-up for a bizarre encounter that simply cannot be explained. Impact was outplayed for long spells in the first half against seven men but played better when Thien An managed to get a full team on the field thanks to a few helping hands from Bosnia as the game went on. Kevin Dunigan got assists on both first half goals with excellent through balls, finished by Matt Choi and Jose Chi. Having four more players than their opponent, Impact should have been at least 8-0 up at half-time instead of just the pair of goals.

The second half showed improvement with three wonderful goals, but nothing spectacular happened other than the scoreline. Kris put Jak through with a precise chip behind the defense before the midfielder finished it off with a powerful volley. Vietnamese boy Hieu Duong toe-poked his first goal for the club against his countrymen after Jamie Watts spotted his run inside the box. Totev made sure of the win with a long range goal into the bottom corner and received affection from the referee with a pat on the shoulder. The away side's consolation goal three seconds before the final whistle was of less importance. A nice win without the best performance to back it up, but Impact still showed that they are capable of scoring a lot of goals even on a bad day.

In this week's news, if players tell the manager they're going to be at the game... show up.

FC Thiên Ân - Deep Impact

GSSL Division 3B October 24, 2010 2:00pm Foster High School

FC Thiên Ân - Deep Impact 0-5 (0-1)
0-1 Jak Ashuraliev (Jose Chi)
0-2 Jak Ashuraliev
0-3 Brian Virgin
0-4 Kevin Dunigan
0-5 Blake Ambrose (Matt Choi)

Uzbekistan's favorite son Jakhongir Ashuraliev lead Deep Impact to their seventh successive win with a wonderful brace as the Vietnamese side were ripped apart from start to finish at Foster High School in Tukwila.

The still undefeated Impact made it seven straight wins out of seven and a second clean sheet of the season thanks to a solid defensive display against ultra-aggressive FC Thien An. The Impact defense has improved tremendously in the past weeks and made few mistakes as the home side recorded only two shots on target. Ryan Camden's forecast was spot on yet again as both teams went for cover in the public restroom, away from the fierce rain and wind that awaited them in the first half.

It was evident that weather conditions would play a huge part in the events to follow as Impact kept most of the possession but didn't seem to find the breakthrough they desperately needed. The lack of possession and high pressure from the away side caused the Phở to get overheated, and instead of playing fair they chose to be naughty without much interference from the referee. The carefully chosen representatives from Cascade Gasket & Manufacturing Company, who was present at the game wearing Snuggies and three additional blankets, stated that some very nice footwork was taking place on the field but did not understand why the other team had to be meanieheads. The only goal of the half came from a perfect Jose Chicharinho free-kick that was met by The Jakubu's head in a warm beanie on the far post, taking his team into the public resting room with a narrow lead.

After a short break where shirtless Matthew McConaughey moments were bound to happen due to wet fabric on male bodies, Impact hunted for the breathing space an altar boy can only dream of. Jak, who is brimming with confidence since his return to Seattle, red-rocketed a free-kick deep into the opponent's goal from 30 meters out. Rumor has it that one can still smell the gun powder in the net. Minutes later FC Thien An got what they were supposedly looking for the entire game; a player sent off for a reckless challenge. Impact took advantage of being one man up when B-Virge popped out of nowhere and tapped in a third after a rebound from their goalkeeper. Versatile blondie Kevin Dunigan added a fourth with a gorgeous left-footed volley into the upper corner from outside the box. Ambrose, as so many times before, buried the game after being put through by Matt Choi. A magnificent run of form for Deep Impact continues with an outstanding goalscoring record of 32-7, a greater goal difference than any other team in the entire GSSL system.

For comic relief purposes and not necessarily news, the manager encourages his fellow teammates to come up with the most legitimate and original reasons to not participate in future events, especially the ones via text like 8 minutes before a game. The best stories and suggestions will be published in a special Deep Impact diary at the end of the season.

Deep Impact - Smells Like Low Tide

GSSL Division 3B October 17, 2010 9:30am Summit Playfields #2

Deep Impact - Smells Like Low Tide 6-0 (2-0)
1-0 Marty Klingebiel (Matt Choi)
2-0 Jak Ashuraliev (Kris Totev)
3-0 Marty Klingebiel (Jak Ashuraliev)
4-0 Jason Hawkes
5-0 Kris Totev
6-0 Blake Ambrose (pk)

Johnny Dominick got his first clean sheet of the season as Deep Impact cemented their place in pole position with an astounding 6-0 demolition in Lake City.

Impact were once again without six players and it makes you wonder what a great idea it was to include 20 players in the squad. Whoever made that decision must be a smart guy or something. Marty Klingebiel was back in contention after a thirst-quenching weekend in Pullman and made the starting lineup. A request to re-open the X-Files was denied as the whereabouts of two missing Impact players is still unknown to this day.

Manager Totev kept faith in the same back four from last weekend's win and they followed up with another great performance. Ryan Camden swept up everything in the back, complimented by Matt Sas who dominated both on the ground and up in the air with George Clooney. The two teams seemed evenly matched in the opening ten minutes or so before Marty, who thought it was a good idea to wear moccasins on a wet surface instead of cleats, came through with a cool finish often witnessed during his career at WSU Men's Soccer Club. The goal was set up beautifully by Matthew Choi, who spends his weekends enjoying White Russians and pop-a-shot basketball.

It took awhile for Impact to get a crucial second goal as Smells Like A (insert non-racist comment here) Person On A Bus kept pressing and ran all day like crazies attacked by a rabid dog. A headed clearance from their defense found its way to Totev who in turn spotted an unmarked Jak outside the box. The Uzbek man blasted home another magnificent long-range goal and has really become a strong addition to the team since joining this Fall. The fan base in his home country has been said to have doubled from three to six people because of his performances of late. A comfortable two-goal lead at the break but everyone sensed there was more to come from the home side.

After the restart, Impact's fluent play continued with several players glowing like a young girl getting her make-up done at Sephora. Marty got his second of the match from a wonderfully bent corner-kick by Jak, which he celebrated by gesturing how accurate the corner should be described in this report. Right winger Jason Hawkes, back from three weeks of wedding crashing, got his first goal in two years when his deflected shot crept into the corner. Kris Totev added more misery by emulating a Yoann Gourcuff free-kick that took a wicked deflection off the head of a defender in the wall. The midfielder was then fouled inside the area and handed the penalty-kick duty to Blake Ambrose, who confidently stepped up and made it six in the same hole. Worth mentioning were the two appeals for obvious penalty-kicks not awarded to Impact, and the dozen missed chances could have easily seen them double the scoreline. By far the best team performance of the year and will surely send shivers down the spine of any team facing them in the weeks to come.

For lack of more important news, the two missing Impact players were finally located and will hopefully recover in time for next weekend's game. For obvious reasons they had reaped the benefits of a two-month vacation in Chile.

Shin Guards? - Deep Impact

GSSL Division 3B October 10, 2010 5:00pm Robinswood Park #1

Shin Guards? - Deep Impact 1-4 (1-2)
0-1 Brian Virgin (Chris Allen)
0-2 Jak Ashuraliev
1-2
1-3 Brian Virgin (Chris Allen)
1-4 Blake Ambrose (Jak Ashuraliev)

Midfielder Brian Virgin bagged two goals to steer Deep Impact three points clear of second-placed Summit FC after an impressive 4-1 scoreline in Bellevue.

Virgin, not, seized the opportunity to score two crucial goals for both himself and the club as the pursuit for silverware continues. It has been said that his goals were inspired by a Glee-marathon featuring songs by Britney Spears and one about finding Jesus which was kinda crappy. The Vancouver, WA native will unfortunately miss out on next weekend's home game after being selected to perform a handy job assignment in Hannah Montana. Impact were without a whopping six players due to late family brunches and October fest, not including the heavily drugged Ambrose who is now four wisdom teeth poorer, the ill-stricken James "Maison" Choi, and dead leg Totev who all started on the bench.

Shin Guards?, whose team name is to be mentioned for the last time in this report since it's awkward enough putting a question mark in the middle of a sentence, never really threatened to cause an upset as they came out surprisingly weak in this top of the table clash. Former Work Doer and top scorer Donald's Ball was nowhere to be seen for the home side. It came as no shock when Impact took the lead through the aforementioned Brian Virgin. Assisted by striker Chris Allen, he gently mimicked a typical Stephen Ireland-finish with the inside of his right foot that sailed into the far left corner. If you ever ask Brian who Stephen Ireland is he'll have no clue what you're talking about, so the imitation itself was impressive enough.

International superstar Jak Ashuraliev would increase the lead minutes later. Jak, who will be handing out autographed soccer balls to homeless children at the Bobby Morris Playfield this upcoming Friday, shone in the central midfield role and got some nice touches in whenever a nice touch was possible. Following a total mishit by defensive midfielder Lubov, or a "sniper-attack" as some would try to disguise it as, Jak picked up the loose ball and fired a rocket from about 25 meters out, leaving the goalkeeper completely helpless in his stride. One could even hear quiet chants of "Tashkent, Tashkent, Tashkent" from an isolated section of the crowd. As in every other game so far this season Impact would concede a silly goal after being in complete control, this time from a corner where the forward was left totally unmarked for an easy header. A 2-1 lead at half-time but no real cause for concern.

The second half didn't exactly offer any reason to pull out the leftover fireworks from July but a clean sheet and two more balls in the bag secured a fifth win of the season. Brian's second goal was similar to his first, only this time the effort came with his left foot. The dazed and confused Ambrose put the game well out of reach with a Fernando Torres-like move to beat the defender before side-footing it low into the corner. Another wonderful highlight of the game was Hieu's mile-long run up the field in the first half, it was one of those rare beauties that should've been captured on camera and sealed in a vault. Totev tried to add a fifth with a Gourcuff-esque free kick he has been practicing on for weeks and was only inches wide of the upper corner, stirring up an excited yet disappointed outburst from Ryan's dad. A thoroughly deserved win for Impact, and a statement from former Seattle Central SC coach Mike "Hobo Gloves" Henderson suggested that he was never in doubt as to where the three points would end up.

In this week's breaking news, player manager Totev would like to express his gratitude toward Impact's defensive backline for sticking it to the man. Harsh words have been exchanged in the past but are now long forgotten as they managed their second clean sheet in the final 45 minutes of a match. Camden, Duong, Sas and Dunigan will now eagerly await a free Gary Lineker practice DVD, a basket of fun-sized bananas, as well as a $3 Uwajimaya gift card to arrive in their respective mailboxes.

Foster Kids - Deep Impact

GSSL Division 3B October 3, 2010 11:00am Lower Woodland #7

Foster Kids - Deep Impact 2-7 (0-3)
0-1 Marty Klingebiel (Jose Chi)
0-2 Chris Allen (Kris Totev)
0-3 Kris Totev
0-4 Tristan Traywick (Marty Klingebiel)
1-4
1-5 Blake Ambrose
1-6 Jak Ashuraliev (pk)
2-6
2-7 Blake Ambrose (Jak Ashuraliev)

The Sky Blues went top of the table after four straight wins as six different players got on the scoresheet in a 7-2 drubbing at Green Lake.

Impact handed debuts to new signings Marty Klingebiel, Jamie Watts, and long lost Seattle Central favorite Jakhongir Ashuraliev. Johnny Kummer, who was picked up on a free transfer after an all-male road trip to Vegas, has yet to make an appearance for the club as he is still waiting for his U-Haul truck to arrive from Idaho. Team manager Totev also saw the opportunity to experiment with a different formation against rock bottom Foster Kids and opted for AC Milan's famous Christmas tree with hella subs to spare.

Even with a solid 3-0 lead at half-time the formation didn't quite work the way it was intended and by the start of the second half Impact had reverted back to their familiar 4-4-2 that had secured 9 points the first three games. Marty grabbed the opening goal with a stunning header similar to Lionel Messi's goal in the Champions League final last year from a pin-point cross by Jose Chi. Chris Allen got the second after Totev's delicate chip put him through on goal. If you need a proper description of Allen's finish, please skim through the previous match reports. Totev took his tally to four goals in as many games off a long clearance by Adam Siebenaler that was poorly dealt with by the defense. The midfielder made the most of the situation and slotted the ball low past the goalkeeper.

The second half turned out to be somewhat of a mess, but there were still lots of positives to take from it as Impact kept on adding goals to their first half advantage. Tristan Traywick stated in an exclusive interview with King 5's Paul Silvi last week that he would like to get on the scoresheet soon, bro. He got his wish when Marty's accurate cross found his forehead and with a confident header he managed to get it over the goalie and in. Foster Kids pulled one back after some horrendous mistakes in the Impact back four, which quite frankly was unnecessary for Pete's sake and also meant no donut for Dominick on the day.

Blake Ambrose rose to the occasion in the second half and showed the Green Lake faithful why he has been dubbed The Wunderkind of our generation by the Laurelhurst beach club. His first came from a quick Traywick throw-in that landed in Blake's path, he then went on to diddle a couple of defenders before coolly finishing off the move. Jamie was soon after clumsily pushed in the back by the opponent's keeper and earned Impact a penalty kick. The stage was set for the return of Jak who made no mistake from the spot. Manager Totev received a thank you note from the skilled midfielder's family in Uzbekistan for the generous gesture of letting their son get off the mark in his first game for the club. Foster Kids would get another goal before Ambrose rounded off a good display by pouncing on a perfectly weighted through-ball by Jak and getting his second goal of the afternoon.

In recent news, soon-to-be New Yorker Maison Choi caught a glimpse of the Impact Washington headquarters in Mukilteo on his way to a Korean barbecue and noticed that the main offices were only slightly bigger than the company's logo on our jerseys. The team's sponsor stated that they're willing to offer Choi a job with decent pay if he can fit inside a dollhouse.

Deep Impact - ECS FC

GSSL Division 3B September 26, 2010 9:00am Edmonds District Stadium

Deep Impact - ECS FC 4-1 (3-1)
1-0 Chris Allen (Blake Ambrose)
2-0 Kris Totev (Sung Rak Choi)
3-0 Kris Totev (Brian Virgin)
3-1
4-1 Chris Allen

Former Coug and current top scorer Christopher Allen made it four goals in three games as Deep Impact continued their fine form with a 4-1 thrashing in Edmonds.

The home side could finally include indoor legends Alex Lubov and Tristan Traywick for their first appearances this season. Ryan Camden served a one-match suspension for his two yellow cards last weekend and was obviously disappointed that he couldn't participate at his old stomping ground. Matt Choi was unable to make it as his car broke down on the Montlake bridge 7 minutes before kick-off, whilst Ted Choi has yet to make a statement about the incident. However, it is destined to start with a claim that someone was in an offside position when it all occurred.

Impact were on the back-foot from the get-go as ECS, abbreviated from Emerald City Supporters of Fredy Montero's Goal Celebration with Both Index Fingers Pointing to the Sky, kept possession well and piled on the pressure in the opening minutes. The away side, being complimented by the referee with a foreign accent for a disciplined warm-up before the game, seemed to beam with confidence as Impact struggled to maintain possession on the wet surface. But once again it was goal poacher Chris Allen who would be first on the scoresheet for the sky blues with what has become a trademark finish by now. Ambrose picked up a loose ball in the middle of the park and presented Allen with a through-pass that only a genius can decipher on a good day. The striker placed it low to the right of the keeper, leaving the opposition in dismay.

The game evened out after the opening goal and as the first half progressed the Norwegian playmaker decided to take matters into his own hands. After receiving the ball from Korean hand model Choi, Totev found acres of space in front of him and sent away a pile-driver from about 20 meters out. The ball dipped in front of the goalie who was unable to react quick enough to stop it as it slid underneath. Totev would add his second goal on the day not long after. Brian Virgin spotted Totev's sneaky run to break away from the ECS midfield, he then beat the defender one-on-one and with a clinical finish low and hard gave Impact some breathing space before the interval. The goal's after effects produced signature Jersey Shore fist pumping moves and a general rejoice within the team. ECS pulled one back on a free-kick that was deflected in via the head of a defender, literally seconds before the half-time whistle to give them any hope of a second-half comeback.

In the final 45 minutes both teams came close to scoring on several occasions and Totev could've easily grabbed a hat-trick with his third shot of the match that was comfortably saved. It's rather uncertain what was said during the away side's team talk at the break but they came out fighting, hoping to salvage a point. Johnny Dominick had a good game in the Impact goal and stopped everything that came his way. The final nail in the coffin came through a counter attack. Totev stole the ball and in similar fashion to his second goal outpaced the full-back before crossing it low towards Ambrose. The central defender was onto him like a flash but made somewhat of a half-ass interception, only for Chris Allen to pick up the pieces and make it 4-1 from close range. Nothing short of an impressive and effective display by Impact in their first home game of the season. That's brilliant that is.

This just in: several Deep Impact players have noticed the mysterious shift in weather at every event so far, being hella rainy in the mornings but disappearing completely as the referee gets the game underway. In other news, an unnamed father plays tennis and does not enjoy the rain. He stated that the Seattle weather on Sundays throws him off and faces him with the difficult dilemma whether to sleep in or not.

Summit FC - Deep Impact

GSSL Division 3B September 19, 2010 11:15am Summit Playfields #2

Summit FC - Deep Impact 1-3 (0-2)
0-1 Chris Allen
0-2 Blake Ambrose (Kris Totev)
0-3 Kris Totev (Blake Ambrose)
1-3

Deep Impact's multi-talented midfielder Blake Forrest Ambrose scored his first goal for the club and set up another in a convincing 3-1 win at Summit.

Being on a high from last weekend's narrow win, Impact continued in the same way and enjoyed plenty of possession in this early Sunday kick-off that had more weather changes than Al Roker could predict. At one point there was a clear indication of double rainbows. Chris Allen got the team off to a flyer with his second goal in as many games. The striker picked up a loose ball behind the defense and placed it out of reach for the opposing goalkeeper. An on-going investigation of the first goal's assist maker has been put on hold as no one seemed to claim it at the time. The review panel has decided to give the assist to the unknown entity that also seemingly pushed the Impact goalie with no one sight.

At the end of the half it was time for our number 7 to open his account. After receiving the ball from Jose Chi, Totev advanced towards the box before faking a shot and sliding it nicely through to Ambrose who dummied the defender and expedited the ball low past the goalie. The Seattle native was reportedly so excited about the goal that he rushed home to tell his parents, and was lovingly rewarded with his favorite Italian meatballs. Deep Impact in control at half-time with a 2-0 lead. The interval produced a cameo by the founder of Seattle Central Soccer Club and Donald Trump's #1 fan Toan Viradet, who was deeply impressed with the team's jerseys.

The third goal was an absolute gem that would make Arsene Wenger proud any day of the week, a move that was started and finished by Totev. Deep Impact displayed, against a helpless defense, one-touch passing at its very best involving Brian, Matt Choi and Blake, leaving the unmarked Totev with the easy job of putting the ball into the back of the net. A moment to cherish and surely a contender for team goal of the season.

Moments later, Ryan picked up his second yellow of the game and received his marching orders. The referee, who coincidentally recovered the heart of Davy Jones in the Pirates trilogy, did everything in his power to make the remainder of the game an exciting contest. Summit FC were awarded a dubious penalty kick but after two attempts the home side were not able to convert it into a consolation goal. They eventually got their breakthrough with a long ball over the Impact defense that was headed in via the post by their forward. A comfortable away win in the end and a much improved performance by Impact.

In other news, Impact was able to feature Vietnamese right-back Hieu Duong for the first time this season. The young defender decided the time was right to come out of retirement and take a break from eating his country's beloved phở and cream puffs to join up with his new teammates.

Journeymen FC - Deep Impact

GSSL Division 3B September 12, 2010 9:30am Nathan Hale High School

Journeymen FC - Deep Impact 2-3 (1-2)
1-0
1-1 Matt Choi (Blake Ambrose)
1-2 Chris Allen (Brian Virgin)
2-2
2-3 Jose Chi (Chris Allen)

The Division 3B season opener marked the long-awaited return of Argentine star Jose "Carlito" Chi, who came off the bench to grab the winner at Nathan Hale HS.

The highly anticipated debut game for Seattle's latest expansion team Deep Impact couldn't have been closer... in scoreline. This historic day, witnessed by a crowd of roughly 6 grown-ups and a child, saw sky blue Impact dominate possession from start to finish but lack of quality in the final third turned the game more suspenseful than it should've been. The hosts took advantage of the few chances they had and succeeded with their long ball approach.

Against the run of play, Journeymen FC took the lead after a mix-up in the Impact defense and their forward made no mistake one-on-one with Johnny. Despite going a goal down it was all square shortly after. Kris, also known as "Bjorn Dota" from the famous Work Doers FC era managed by popular music video director Jon Jon, passed short to "Hoyt" Ambrose who found Matt Choi with an inch-perfect through-ball. A calm finish by the former Botany 101 prodigy to make it 1-1. Minutes later the first-half comeback was complete. A long cross to the far post was met by Brian, only to be poked into the old onion bag by Chris Allen. An important 2-1 lead at the break.

The second half saw much of the same, lots of possession but wasted chances by the away side. The men of journeys equalized on a counter attack with a cracker of a goal from long range. But it was the Argentine midfielder who would have the last laugh. After undergoing surgery for a torn ACL awhile back he was finally ready to show off his skills in front of former and new teammates. With great close control he got past the defense inside the penalty box and found enough space to slot the ball past their keeper for the winning goal. A hard-earned 3-2 win but nothing more than Impact deserved.

In related news, Ambrose heaped praise on Chi's hairstyle and expressed his desire to grow out his own hair to resemble the great Carlos Tévez.
